On 27th October 2018, the “fittest” Mombasa women converged at the Uwanja wa Mbuzi Grounds in Nyali for the 4th Annual Gertrude Hospital’s Breast Cancer Awareness #BootBreastCancer Women’s Soccer Tournament.
The tournament was officially opened by Hon. Munywoki Kyalo, the Mombasa County Minister for Youth, Gender, Sports and Cultural Affairs. The tournament was an opportunity for the men, women and children in attendance to learn about Breast Cancer. There was a free Breast Cancer Screening Camp at the site which also offered advise on weight, blood pressure, diabetes and BMI.
Among the exhibitors was Mpower member Frida Kavwele with her team of Forever Living Health consultants. Forever Living Products are known for their quality and tremendous benefit for anyone wishing to live healthy. As we learnt, a healthy lifestyle reduces your chances of developing cancer.
The tournament attracted a total of 9 amateur teams among them, the beautiful Soccer Divas Club of Mombasa, the majestic lionesses KCB Ladies, the cute WASA Ladies, the pretty Technical Universtiy of Mombasa (TUM) Ladies, the hot Red Cross Ladies, the gorgeous Oshwal Ladies, the elegant Swahili Pot Ladies and of course the indomitable Mpower Ladies.
WIN BY HAVING FUN!
The Mpower team was crowned the most “coveted” trophy of the tournament – the Fair Play Award. No doubt this was in recognition of the spirit of the amazing ladies in the team that curved their niche by energetically cheering for each team in attendance, without fail, without bias and generally making a merry great ruckus at the event.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience to have fun with the fantastic group of women that showed up on the day. There were many laughs and high fives, and new friends made. We gave ourselves and others on the pitch so much joy. It didn’t matter that we sometimes ran away from the ball when the prolific striker Cameron Sedela shot the #MDG Ball at 300km/h our way. It was all worth it to be part of the day to witness the 12 year (youngest player) Gloria Mariwa of Soccer Divas charge towards the goal with skill and zeal.
All this could not have been possible without your attendance and support.
