November 24, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Mpower Limited, in partnership with Lawquery Limited, will be holding a High Tea Panel Discussion Forum on Saturday 24th November 2018 from 2pm – 5pm.

The objective is to discuss the status of Gender and Intimate Partner Violence in Kenya and whether there is adequate legal framework in place to protect the affected, deter prevalence and penalize offenders.

Among the invited panelists include:

  • an Advocate,
  • a Professional Counselor/Psychologist and
  • representatives from
    • FIDA Kenya,
    • GBVRC,
    • Mombasa Youth Parliament,
    • Kenya Police Service Gender Desk,
    • Sauti ya Wanawake Pwani and the
    • The Mombasa County Government.

These crucial stakeholders will be necessary to cascade the information from the grassroots to the policy makers.

At the close of the workshop, we shall be sending the workshop Memorandum including the recommendations to the Kenya Law Reform Commission and such other agencies as may be concerned, for their consideration.

This event will serve to usher in the #16DaysofActivism which is observed from 25th November 2018 – 10th December each year.

We hope that the discussion at the High Tea will set the tone for the same by equipping participants with the relevant information on the status, and which areas require emphasis or improvement.

This is necessary for effective advocacy on the issue, particularly in light of the spate of media reports of GBV/ IPV incidents, as well as the “Sponsor Phenomenon.”

Participants will be charged Ksh.800/- per person for attendance to cater for refreshments.
